One Month Later: Getting Back on Track with Updates

Dear readers,

It's been nearly a month since my last post, and I wanted to update you on my recent activities. While my day job has kept me quite busy, I've still managed to explore some fascinating topics in my spare time.

I'm pleased to share that I've published three new articles related to my work:

  1. "Fundamentals of Interest Rate": This piece explores the concept of interest, its purpose, the time value of money, and various loan repayment structures.
  2. "Commonly Used Risk Metrics": Here, I detail the definitions and applications of various risk metrics in consumer finance.
  3. "Estimating the Response to Intervention": In this article, I discuss the distinction between association and causation, providing a mathematical explanation of the biases involved and techniques for estimating causal effects.

Beyond these publications, I've been immersing myself in the study of deep reinforcement learning, utilising resources from UC Berkeley's CS285 course. I'm particularly drawn to reinforcement learning due to its applications in decision-making and its potential to solve complex challenges across various domains—from the game of Go to protein folding and robotics.

To document my progress, I've attached my learning notes and solution to the course's first homework assignment. Feel free to peruse these if you're interested in the topic.

In an exciting development, I've recently begun exploring the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) for debt collection, which is a specialized area of customer service. Despite my recent promotion to a managerial role, I sometimes find myself missing the hands-on engineering aspects of my previous position. There's something truly invigorating about building new solutions, and this project has reignited that passion.

On a personal note, I've recently embarked on a new fitness journey. For the past month, I've been consistently engaging in weight training twice a week. I've gained over 1 kg of lean muscle mass. This progress is encouraging, and I'm excited to see what further improvements I can achieve in the coming months.
